Salvation or Kingdom Good News (Gospel)?
What is missing in the modern Christian gospel? I believe it is the New Covenant understanding of a “gospel of the kingdom.” Yehoshua (Jesus) , Kefa (Peter), Sha'ul (Paul), and the early believers of the WAY all taught the good news (gospel) of the Kingdom of YHVH (God).
What is preach in America is a gospel of salvation. Over the past two hundred years, American Christian evangelist preachers, and pastors have focused almost exclusively on getting people saved. Great American evangelists like Charles Finney, Billy Sunday, D.L. Moody, and Billy Graham have led the evangelistic movement in the U.S. Over the past forty years, an entire new style of church has arisen with the same emphasis; these churches are called seeker sensitive churches, emphasizing the need to be sensitive to non-Christians in order to win them to Christ.
Evangelism is vital and important.
But the good news of the kingdom is more than just a gospel of salvation. Salvation certainly gets you into the kingdom (John 3:5, Acts 2:38) but I’m talking about getting the kingdom into us! Being a disciple. (Matthew 28:18-20) To explain the difference, this chart has been developed:
Gospel of Salvation
a. About us being Reconciled to God
b. Emphasis is Christian Conversion (depends on denomination)
c. Jesus Saves (Savior)
d. Goal: Saved & Forgiven
e. Going to Heaven someday
f. Identity: Saying a sinner's prayer. Saved by grace only
g. Christ as Lamb of God
h. Crucified with Christ
i. Getting us into Heaven
Gospel of the Kingdom
a. It's about YeHoVaH and us Ruling with His Messiah
b. Emphasis is Becoming a Disciple of Yehoshua the Messiah
c. Yehoshua Reigns (King of Kings)
d. Goal: Born Again, Delivered, & Transformed
e. Made kings and priests today
f. Identity: Talmidim (disciples) of Messiah
g. Mashiach as Lamb of God and Lion of the tribe Yehudah
h. Crucifying the flesh and rising to a new life in Mashiach (Messiah)
i. Getting the Kingdom into us, Torah written on our hearts. Being obedient disciples.
The true gospel is the good news of the kingdom. A gospel of salvation is incomplete, doctrines of men. “The gospel of the kingdom.” Yehoshua (Jesus) , Kefa (Peter), Sha'ul (Paul), and the early believers of the WAY all taught the good news (gospel) of the Kingdom of YHVH (God). It’s not just about praying the salvation prayer (which is not found in the New Covenant) but rather, “repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Yehoshua, Matthew 3:2). And it’s in teaching the good news of the kingdom that we experience the power of YHVH that leads to true salvation (Romans 1:16). It is in teaching the King of Kings, Savior, Messiah. Following the WAY 0f the Netzari (the Nazarene) and discipling men and women into the reign and rule of the Kingdom of YHVH (God), that we will turn this world upside down.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Messiah, for it is the power of Elohim for deliverance to everyone who believes, to the Yehuḏi first and also to the Greek.
