I WILL CHOOSE A TIME TO PRAY
“I, I call upon Elohim, And YHVH—יהוה saves me.
Evening and morning and at noon I complain and moan, And He hears my voice.”
— Tehillim (Psalms) 55:16–17, TS2009
Would you like to talk with Avinu Elohei (Our Father, God)? Do you desire Avinu Elohei to speak with you?
The world can be changed through prayer. When we pray, the power, revelation, and strength of YHVH—יהוה become ours. You can become an important part of Avinu Elohei’s plans in these last days—if you are willing to pray.
First, choose this mentally and spiritually: Choose to pray. Your decision to pray brings glory to Avinu Elohei and blessing to you and to others. This single decision, faithfully carried out, will make you one of the most important people in the world—doing the most important work in the world.
Communicating with Y’hovah — Avinu Elohei — Through Prayer
Human hearts crave conversation. Even in a crowded life, the soul grows lonely without fellowship with Avinu Elohei. As a newborn craves milk, so the spiritually born person craves communion with Y’hovah.
“Master, teach us to pray…” — Luqas (Luke) 11:1
Everyone who walks with Y’hoshua HaMashiach senses this call. Prayer and the Word are the food of the soul. The Ruach HaKodesh came because you believed and hungered. If you desire the Ruach to remain strong in your heart, you must pray.
“It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh is no help. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.”
— Yochanan (John) 6:63, CJB
The Greatest Thing You Can Do for Your Assembly
You might give generously, preach boldly, or sing beautifully. Yet the greatest thing you can do for your Assembly and for individuals is to pray for them.
“Whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven… again I tell you that if two of you agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
— Mattityahu (Matthew) 18:18–19, CJB
Evangelism begins with prayer; discipleship thrives in prayer; your personal walk depends on prayer.
Two Absolutes of a Lasting Prayer Life
1) Systematic. 2) Complete.
The greatest “technique” is simply to pray—but these two anchors help you continue with joy.
SYSTEMATIC PRAYER
Find a Time
David modeled set times: evening, morning, and noon (Tehillim 55:17). Avinu Elohei is not opposed to order:
“Let all be done decently and in order.” — Qorintiyim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 14:40
Choose when you are most alert: early, midday, or late. Guard that appointment with Y’hovah. Many find early morning fruitful—beginning the day with Avinu Elohei’s path, words, and meditations.
Find a Place
Y’hoshua prayed in a certain place (Luqas 11:1). If possible, designate a quiet corner—a “secret place.” But remember: an unused prayer room is of no value. Pray anywhere: fields, wilderness, dungeons, ships, gravesides—Scripture shows prayer in every circumstance. The place is secondary; praying is primary.
Pray with Specific Objectives
Vague utterances seldom lead to victory. Learn to ask specifically and boldly. Know the needs; bring them by name before Avinu Elohei. You’re not a beggar—you’re a talmid invited to partner in the King’s business.
“But this I admit to you: I worship the God of our fathers in accordance with the WAY… believing everything written in the Torah and the Prophets.”
— Ma’asei (Acts) 24:14, CJB
COMPLETE PRAYER
Many kneel without a clear sense of what to do in prayer. Scripture reveals a natural spiritual flow. Y’hoshua referred to an hour of prayer (Mattityahu 26:40). Use the following Prayer Clock as a guide—not as a law, but as a training wheel—until prayer becomes your delight.
The Complete Prayer Clock (60 minutes)
Break your hour into twelve 5-minute segments. Linger longer where the Ruach leads; this is a framework, not a fence.
- Praise (5 min) – Exalt Y’hovah for who He is (Tehillim 145). Name His attributes aloud.
- Forgiveness (5) – Release all offenses; ask Him to soften your heart (Mattityahu 6:14–15).
- Confession (5) – Agree with Y’hovah about your sins; receive cleansing (Tehillim 51; 1 Yochanan 1:9).
- Petition (5) – Present your needs with faith (Philippiyim 4:6–7). Be specific.
- Intercession (5) – Stand in the gap for people, leaders, nations, Yisrael (Yeḥezqel 22:30; Romiyim 10:1).
- Bible Reading (5) – Read slowly; pray back phrases that strike your heart (Tehillim 119).
- Meditation (5) – Quietly ponder a verse; let it sink from mind to heart (Yehoshua 1:8).
- Thanksgiving (5) – Count mercies by name; cultivate gratitude (Tehillim 103).
- Praying the Word (5) – Turn promises into prayers; declare His will (Yesha’yahu 55:11).
- Singing (5) – Sing psalms/hymns—simple, sincere worship (Eph’siyim 5:19).
- Listening (5) – Be still; journal impressions aligned with Scripture (Tehillim 46:10).
- Praise (5) – Finish with adoration and trust; bless Y’hovah (Tehillim 34:1).
“Evening, morning, and noon…” — Tehillim 55:17
“Could you not watch with Me one hour?” — Mattityahu 26:40
As you practice, the hour will fly. Prayer becomes not a burden but a joy.
Keep His Name, Guard His Word
“Where two or three are assembled in My Name, I am there.” — Mattityahu (Matthew) 18:20
“There is no other Name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” — Ma’asei (Acts) 4:12
Love His Name — Y’hoshua (YHVH is salvation). Keep His Word. This is the atmosphere in which prayer burns bright and steady.
Personal Application (Reflection)
- When will I choose to pray daily (time, duration), and where will I meet Avinu Elohei?
- Which two segments of the Prayer Clock do I most need this week?
- Who will I intercede for by name each day?
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.” — Ḥazon (Revelation) 3:13.
